So the Dungeons and Dragons people are in the middle of cobbling together a 4th Edition of the game, and they've begun releasing preview stuff to whet appetites.

Halflings in D&D haven't been Hobbit rip-offs for some time, now... they're actually pretty Kender-y these days, for those of you tragic enough to have read the same crap I did in middle school... and 4e is casting them as wily little nappy-headed river-gypsies. But they still basically look like tiny people. Very boring.

Someone over at EN World, a RPG forum, started a thread about re-designing them to look less like a midget colony, and my husband alerted me to it. He suggested I give it a shot, and this is what I came up with. He has informed me that no one on EN World will go for this because they aren't pretty enough, but like I could give a shit.

You want non-human? Well, here ya go. Dreadlocked, aye-aye-looking, crafty little bastards skittering all over the rigging and chittering at you from the crow's nest. A ship full of these things would be awesome and we all know it.

This will probably move to Scraps in a while.
