Yeah, I know, webcomics don't really have covers. But you know. Whatever.
This is Gene, and he opened the third chapter of Templar, Arizona. He disturbed a lot of people when he did, primarily because he was naked. The Penny Arcade forums especially expressed uniform horror at the sight of a naked man. Another poster on another forum called his nudity "nasty."
Naked woman = hot and sexy. Naked man = Homosexuality-inducing horror. Isn't the world a funny old place.
I have to say I was slightly weirded out by the image - not because it was a naked man, but because it was a naked /Gene/.
Something is just odd about that. It could be the coupling of his childlike expression and obviously full-grown-male body that really made people uncomfy. Maybe?

Be a Man! Be as sweet as Niko's cupcakes!
The comment is mightier than the pageview!

And then I was like, no, you shut up.
"The female body is artistic, the male's is utilitarian."
Like the difference between a porche and a jeep.
That said, Gene does NOT look good naked anyways, but on the other hand, it's not something so shockingly nasty, so to speak...

The only reason I don't insult you is because I'm too speechless by what I see..

Peel all of your layers off,
I want to eat your artichoke heart
No more leaky holes in your brain,
And no false starts.
That's actually the illustration that was on the cover, and it's what people called nasty and reflexively looked away from?
You'd at least think people would keep that reaction in reserve for when there are actual genitalia in the picture.

I love Gene, and the coloring on this piece is fantastic.
